Defensive Pistol is an advanced, skills-focused class students who already have basic pistol competency and a valid Texas LTC. This course builds speed, accuracy, and practical holster skills through live-fire drills, malfunction clearing, reloads, and decision-making exercises. It’s designed as the next step after our Hybrid LTC or Fundamental Pistol classes.

Who this class is for?

• Students with a valid Texas LTC only

• Shooters who can demonstrate basic pistol competency (90%+ on LTC proficiency recommended)

• Concealed carriers and students wanting focused, scenario-based defensive skills

 
What you’ll learn
This course emphasizes practical defensive skills and safe weapons handling beyond basic marksmanship:

• Holster drawing and safe re-holstering

• Flash sight picture, recoil control, and fast, accurate shooting

• Emergency and tactical reloads, magazine management

• Malfunction clearing under stress

• Working around people and shooting from positions other than standing

• Use of deadly force principles and decision-making

 
Class requirements & what to bring

• Your own semi-automatic pistol (the one you plan to carry) - NO rentals for this class unless pre-arranged

• Quality holster and sturdy gun belt (strong-side holster recommended)

• Minimum 2 magazines (3 preferred)

• 200 rounds of pistol ammunition (ammo available for purchase - select caliber at checkout)

• Eye and ear protection, closed-toe shoes, and weather-appropriate clothing

• Water and snacks; bring layers for variable weather

 
Logistics & expectations
This is dynamic range training that mixes drills, timed exercises, and scenario work. Safety is paramount — all drills are conducted under close supervision and with strict range commands. Be prepared to work hard and learn practical, real-world skills.
